It is significantly thicker than the common 20lb or 24lb paper, but still goes through even my cheap inkjet printer just fine. I would say it's about twice as strong as my cheap printer paper in terms of tensile strength, and is just a little bit more resistant to tears.
The watermark is not as noticeable on this thicker paper as it is with the thinner paper from Southworth, but is still there, which is good for "security" in terms of proving what year the paper was manufactured as they change the design annually, and perhaps a bit annoying. Though I'm all for a texture, this one in tandem with the thickness, to me feels like construction paper. It's just my personal preference. I think a slightly smoother texture or their linen style would be more elegant.
A couple more things. Be sure to use an laserjet printer if you want a real professional look. Also this paper is supposed to last a very long time, many decades, I'm not sure I'll ever find out how long exactly but it's nice reassurance as I have had some old documents fall apart on me in the past. Nice firm paper that has an elegant feel without breaking the bank. No problems using it to print resumes. However, the watermark is too prominent, so, unless there is a lot of text to cover it up, it can distract the eye. As I said, use it for prints with lots of text. The paper has a great feel and is thick and sturdy. The color is white, but not blindingly so. Although this is a great product I don't believe it deserves two c's in the word exceptional, maybe two x's, but not two c's.
Unless this paper automatically gets me a job, then it can have two p's for all I care. Anyways if you are looking for some good resume paper this is the best for the price. Although, I would recommend buying the count pack. I wish I found this paper a long time ago. It's so crisp, white and substantial compared to typical printer paper. If you want to make an impression with your resume, this paper is a 'must have'. I use it with a laser printer, but I tried it with an inkjet and it works just as well.
The heavy weight makes your resume stand out. It's definitely a great value for the price. But it works for so much more! Yes, people complain about the watermark in it, and even I deducted a star for it. It is very prominent, being even slightly visible when not held up to the light. Hopefully in the future they will either use a much more subtle watermark as I feel it can provide a beautiful finishing touch on this paper, if done correctly , or remove it all together.
I utilize this paper for important business communications; contracts, invoices, proposals If you are looking for something equally beautiful, but a bit easier on the wallet and in larger quantity for daily use, Southworth also makes an excellent business paper in the awesome 32lb weight.
Give this paper a try and I promise you will be hooked on Southworth products. This is part of why, even with the watermark issue, I use their papers almost exclusively. The worst scenario is a recipient trying to figure out who Southworth is. They are a quality, professional, company. What harm can come from knowing that? Maybe it will land them another customer! I did not have any issues like others stated having with printing at least on my Canon MP Resume is crisp and clean and paper thickness is almost double "standard" copy paper.
Hopefully I will not need to order any more but if I did I will seek out this product again I got this paper to write on with a fountain pen. It is a good paper for that, if a bit on the heavy side. I know it is resume paper, and it would be great for that, being very classy.
