Write a letter from yourself in to your present self, in which you describe the state of the world, the way people are living, and what you, yourself, are doing in society. In addition, include any important message that you might wish to tell your present self. Ancestry testing is a form of direct-to-consumer genetic testing designed to inform customers about their genetic ancestry. If a person did all three ancestry tests, what types of information could they learn about their genetic ancestry and how does this genetic ancestry information compare and contrast with their cultural heritage family traditions, etc.
The contest aims to challenge students to examine, question, and reflect on important ideas and issues related to human genetics. Competitive essays are expected to convey substantive, well-reasoned, and evidence-based arguments that demonstrate deep understanding. Essays are evaluated through three rounds of judging, and every essay is read by a minimum of three judges.

Sixteen-year-old climate activist Greta Thunberg of Sweden gained international attention for what she describes as the climate crisis. Flash floods, coastal flooding, increased erosion, reduced snow cover and species losses threaten both Russia and North America. ATA board members and local college professors will review essays based on a grading rubric of thesis, organization, paragraphs, style, and grammar. There will be evening snacks and refreshments served. The press will be invited to report on the story. The Albany-Tula Alliance was formed in to encourage cultural, educational and business exchanges between the greater Capital Region of New York and our sister city of Tula, Russia. Throughout the past quarter century, there have been many exchanges, each one helping everyone involved to better understand people from the other country. Unfortunately, government relations between our two countries are currently strained.
We want to relieve a bit of this pressure by extending the essay contest deadline. If anyone has submitted an essay already and has issues with this extension or feels disadvantaged, please email FQXi to discuss submitting an updated essay.
