It's not a "step by step" thing, it's something for those who can read beyond words. I'm not a Harvard student, but I wish one day I can get there. This is a fantastic book for learning about what makes a great college essay. I love that there is a profile about each author as well as a review of each essay. You learn a lot about some of the qualities an admissions counselor likes to see in a college essay.

This book also gives you great ideas for topics to write about. Essays are helpful to read but the commentary is even more helpful.

My sister used it in conjunction with the Teamharvard application essay course, and got into Harvard and Stanford. This book also provides the grades and SAT scores of the students you wrote the essays. Many of them do not have the best test scores.

It is encouraging to know what matters most is how well you write the application essay, not just the cold hard grades and scores. Great read. Harvard Crimson has put some real efforts in order to get this book together, and the additional information of the students also helped me to set a lot of benchmarks. If you're like me, willing to prepare for an ivy league, and need some head-ups in order to begin, you should get this book immediately.
